Voice mail is one of the most POWERFUL selling tools that you can use to inspire a sales prospect to call you back. One creative callback system that you can use to “Break The Voice Mail Code” and increase your callback ratios are the same principles used by all the marketing gurus at each of the Fortune 500 companies. What principles are being used? It’s called testing, testing and more testing.

The secret to leaving a successful voice mail message and getting prospects to return your call is to apply these “marketing principles” to your sales day. The first thing that you need to do is to create a voice mail script. This script should contain at least 5 different types of messages that you could leave for your prospect. If you have 5 voice mails in your script then put a number next to each one (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5).

In your contact management program (or the system that you use to keep track of your sales calls), after you leave a message, record the number of the voice mail message that you had left from your script. When the prospect calls you back you can then put the number again in your notes. As the days, weeks and months go by, you will be adding, subtracting and rewriting messages. If you decide to incorporate this system try partnering up with another salesperson and use different voice mails. This will help to speed up the testing process.

In time, you will find that the most effective sales messages are those that have gone through this testing process. During this process, you will find yourself even closer to breaking the code, closer to achieving your “Perfect 5” and even closer to finding which messages are getting callbacks and which one’s have no place in your sales vocabulary.
